Jóel Friðfinnsson has been involved in the Icelandic community in Manitoba for the last two decades. He is a member of the Icelandic National League of North America and former president of its Arborg chapter, Esjan. Jóel is one of the three founding members of Icelandic River Heritage Sites Inc., the non-profit Riverton-based heritage group dedicated to preserving and commemorating sites of historic significance in the Icelandic River area.
A student of the Icelandic language, Jóel has taught Icelandic in Arborg to people of all ages. He is a tour guide annually for groups from Iceland, school groups and individuals. Jóel lives in the Geysir district of Manitoba and farms with his father and uncles.
