Icelandic singer-songwriter Ásta will be making her US debut at Rockwood Music Hall this month! Fresh off her first performance at Iceland Airwaves, the folkish, poetic musician will be performing at the renowned New York City venue on January 13th.
Ásta has been been musical her whole life, having played the viola since she was three years old. She has performed as a soloist with Iceland Symphony Orchestra and holds a B.A. degree in viola playing from The Royal Danish Academy of Music. After she graduated, she began singing and writing her own music. Her style has been described as folkish and similar to Joni Mitchell and Nick Cave.
2019 has been a successful year for her, as she was awarded 3rd place at the 2019 Icelandic Music Experiments, as well as receiving The Best Lyrics award. Her debut album, Sykurbað, has been met with critical acclaim and was nominated for the Kraumur Music Awards.
