Founded by pianist Víkingur Ólafsson in 2012, The Reykjavík Midsummer Music Festival takes place in Reykjavík’s stunning Harpa concert hall every second year around the summer solstice. This year’s festival will be held June 22-25.
The festival focuses on one central theme each year to bind together different types of music and musicians, resulting in spectacular creative synthesis. This year, the theme is freedom. Artists will explore a variety of concepts, such as tradition as it relates to freedom, the freedom of imagination and creativity, and the freedom that comes with experimenting with different kinds of artistic expression.
Artists such as Davíð Þór Jónsson, Eggert Pálsson, István Várdai, Julien Quentin and many more will come together to perform at this powerful and contemplative music experience.
