Fifth Annual Iceland Affair & Fire and Ice Music Festival

Enjoy Icelandic food, art, nature and culture in Connecticut this October.

Iceland Affair is Gerri Griswold‘s annual celebration of all things Iceland. Food, art, nature and culture are all represented at Iceland Affair. Gerri truly believes that once you experience Iceland Affair, you too will be swept up in her tsunami of love for the land of ice and fire!

The one-day event features a series of presentations, food samplings and performances by Icelanders and Icelandic experts alike. The 2014 edition is the biggest yet with presenters like Jón Baldur Hlíðberg, Iceland’s most acclaimed nature artist, who will discuss the Bardarbunga volcano. Other presentations will be led by critically acclaimed author Nancy Marie Brown, geologist Tom Alena, master falconer Brian Bradley, Icelandic musical expert Dr. Gunni, Icelandic ornithologist Johann Oli Hilmarsson and Jóhanna B.Þ., the woman responsible for saving Icelandic goats from extinction. Gerri Griswold herself will also present a richly embellished photography travelogue which will leave you asking “Why have I never visited the Land of Fire and Ice?”

In Winchester’s Grange Hall, attendees can stop by to taste a variety of Icelandic foods, like hot dogs, smoked and dried fish, chocolate, skyr and more. Over on the Winchester Center Green, the public can meet and greet Iceland’s biologically pure animals, including Icelandic horses, sheep, sheep dogs, and chickens. All events taking place during the day at Iceland Affair are free to the public.

Then, later that night, the celebration culminates in the extaordinary Fire and Ice Music Festival. Taking place at Infinity Hall in Norfolk, CT the concert will feature world class and award-winning Icelandic recording artists like Lay Low and Snorri Helgason (both previous Taste of Iceland performers), world-famous jazz musician Bjorn Thoroddsen, Kristjana Stefansdottir, Svavar Knutur, Myrra Ros and Agnes Erna. The show begins at 8:00 pm – click here to buy tickets ($35-50).
